Aston Martin recalls over 17,000 cars globally

The recall covers all right-hand drive UK models built since 2012 and the end of 2013, with the exemption of the Vanquish, and all left-hand drive models built since the end of 2007 and the end of 2013.

The issue came about after the carmaker found that counterfeit plastic material had been used in part of the accelerator pedal, possibly causing the engine to idle without warning.

A spokesman told the BBC: ‘Customer safety is very important and to change the pedal takes less than an hour, so take the car and get it replaced is what we're saying. It's very important to say that there have not been any incidents or accidents.’
