The model previews a new Audi production model due in 2018 with a focus on being responsive, efficient and suitable for everyday use.

The e-tron quattro system uses three electric motors, one on the front axle and two on the rear, with a total output of 435hp, boosted to 503hp and over 800Nm using the temporary overboost function. 0 to 100kph time is 4.6 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 210kph.

The 95kWh lithium-ion battery is integrated into the floor of the passenger compartment to bring a balanced axle load distribution and a low centre of gravity. The concept also comes with a large solar roof. The Combined Charging System (CCS) enables charging with DC or AC electrical current. A full charge with DC electrical current at a charging point with an output of 150kW takes around 50 minutes.

The chassis brings adaptive air suspension sport, with controlled damping, while dynamic-all-wheel steering combines a dynamic steering system on the front axle with a steering system for the rear wheels. Depending on speed and the driving situation, they steer either in the same direction as the front wheels or in the opposite plane.

Audi e-tron quattro concept uses an aerodynamic design that brings a drag coefficient of just 0.25 – said to be new best for the SUV segment. In addition, at speeds of 50mph and above, electrically actuated aerodynamic elements on the bonnet, the flanks and at the rear end are activated.

The concept was debuted at the same time as Volkswagen Group chairman Martin Winterkorn announced that the group will launch 20 more electric cars and plug-in hybrids by 2020 – from compact cars to the next Phaeton and Audi A8.
