Shorter and lower than the car it replaces, but with a longer wheelbase, the new XF is claimed to feature segment-leading rear seat space. Its structure is 75% aluminium, shedding 190kg weight compared to its predecessor and 80kg over its nearest competitor, yet also adding 28% more rigidity over the outgoing car.

Engines include 163PS and 190PS versions of the new 2.0-litre Ingenium four-cylinder diesels, the former offered with the XF’s first six-speed manual gearbox as well as the eight-speed automatic. The 163PS is the segment’s most fuel-efficient non-hybrid, offering 4.04l/100km (70mpg) fuel economy and emitting 104g/km CO2. Six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines with up to 380PS complete the range.

Also new to the XF are features including Jaguar’s latest InControl internet-connected infotainment system, a customisable 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster and all-LED headlights. Drivers can also select multiple modes for steering, dampers and drivetrain under the Jaguar Configurable Dynamics system first developed for F-TYPE.

Jaguar has also engineered a new torque on-demand system for a number of markets that require all-wheel drive (AWD), The transfer case uses a chain drive instead of gears and is lighter, quieter and more efficient.

Capability is also enhanced by the advanced control system first used in F-TYPE AWD: Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD). This delivers rear-drive handling with the performance and traction benefits of AWD.

Meanwhile rear-wheel drive form versions offer increased grip on snow and ice thanks to All-Surface Progress Control.

The new XF will be manufactured at Jaguar Land Rover's Castle Bromwich Plant alongside the F-TYPE and XJ.
