By / 12 years ago / News / No Comments

The open-top, two-seater sports cars will be produced at Mazda’s plant in Hiroshima, Japan, starting from 2015. Both will feature rear-wheel drive but the two brands have stressed that the models will be differentiated, distinctly styled and brand-specific. In addition, they will be powered by the brands’ own engines.

Talking about the joint benefits of the deal, the two carmakers said: ‘Mazda aims to enhance development and production efficiency and revitalise enthusiasm for open-top two-seater sports cars around the world.

‘For Fiat, this collaboration will permit the company to deliver a modern interpretation of the classic Alfa Romeo roadster utilising the latest technical solutions, helping Alfa Romeo to achieve its stated goals by 2016.’

The deal follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding in May 2012.
