Mercedes has revealed its EQS SUV, packing in space for up to seven passengers along with a range of up to 410 miles.

Arriving in the second half of 2022, the EQS SUV joins the existing EQS luxury saloon and EQE sporty executive saloon

Arriving in the second half of 2022, it’s the third EQ model to use the company’s new fully electric EVA platform and joins the existing EQS luxury saloon and EQE sporty executive saloon.

Bringing a rival to models such as the Audi e-tron, it shares the same long wheelbase (3,210mm) as the EQS Saloon, but is over 20cm higher and will be available in both five- and seven-seater versions. Boot space ranges from 645 litres to 2,100 for the five-seater and 565 to 2,020 for the seven-seater.

Initial models confirmed for sale are all powered by a 107.8kWh battery and start with the EQS 450+ rear-wheel drive version, followed by the EQS 450 4Matic, both with 360hp of power, along with 568Nm of torque on the former and 800Nm on the latter. The EQS 580 4Matic tops the line-up, with 544hp of power and 858Nm of torque.

The EQS 450+ provides the highest range; from 536 to 660km (333-410 miles). The other two models have official WLTP ranges of 507-613km (315-381 miles).

An 11kW AC charger is supplied as an option, giving a 10-80% charge in five hours. This is halved with the optional 22kW charger. The charge time can be cut to 31 minutes using a 200kW public charger.

The EQS SUV uses a four-link axle at the front and an independent multi-link suspension at the rear, while Airmatic air suspension with continuously adjustable damping ADS+ comes as standard.

Dynamic Select modes include eco, comfort, sport and individual and 4Matic versions also come with an Offroad mode. Rear-axle steering with a steering angle of up to 4.5 degrees is standard while a version with up to 10 degrees steering angle is available as an option.

Prices and equipment are yet to be announced but the supersize MBUX Hyperscreen will be available – providing a trio of screens under a single display cover.

As with the EQS Saloon, drivers are able to activate new vehicle functions via over-the-air updates (OTA). The choice list has been significantly expanded for the EQS SUV and includes Trailer Manoeuvring Assist and the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) Augmented Reality Navigation, along with the enhanced rear-axle steering.

Ola Källenius, chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, commented: “The EQS SUV is the third vehicle on our new all-electric platform. It has everything our customers love about the EQS – and combines this with the strengths and versatility of an SUV that can seat up to seven people. With the EQS SUV, we are continuing to consistently implement the strategy of making our vehicles more sustainable and digital – with the goal of building the most desirable electric cars in the world.”
