Nissan has unveiled its next-generation Qashqai e-Power hybrid, which ups power, efficiency and service intervals while reducing emissions and noise.

Arriving this autumn, four years after the original e-Power powertrain debuted in the UK, it’s now able to deliver fuel efficiency of 62mpg and CO2 emissions of 102g/km – both said to lead the way in the family crossover segment – while also offering some 1,200km (745 miles) of WLTP range.

The new Qashqai e-Power hybrid – the latest launch in Nissan’s EV offensive that also includes the new Micra and Leaf plus an all-new fully electric Juke due 2026 – will also benefit from updated connected technology and driver assistance features.

Nissan’s e-Power hybrid technology was developed to deliver an electric-drive experience without the need to plug in – combining the smooth, effortless acceleration and refinement of an EV with the everyday convenience of traditional combustion power.

Unlike other hybrids, the e-Power’s electric motor is the only source of power to the wheels; the petrol engine is only used to generate electricity, which is either transmitted via the inverter to the battery pack, the electric motor or both, according to the driving scenario.

This means that power is always on tap instantly and the driving experience is always smooth, as with an EV. And like an EV, the regenerative braking system on e-Power converts kinetic energy into electrical energy, fed back into the battery.

The new-generation builds on this following a comprehensive redesign for enhanced fuel efficiency, lower emissions and elevated refinement.

At the core of the new e-Power model is a newly developed five-in-one modular powertrain unit, which integrates the electric motor, generator, inverter, reducer and increaser into a compact and lighter package. Combined with improvements to engine calibration and sound insulation, the system reduces both noise and vibration under load. Overall, power is up by 15hp, from 190hp to a maximum of 205hp. The battery capacity is unchanged at 2.1kWh.

The petrol engine retains the three-cylinder 1.5-litre turbo configuration from the outgoing version, but  is all-new and reworked for “exceptionally high” thermal efficiency and able to operate more quietly and effectively at lower speeds. A new, larger turbo has been fitted, which also brings efficiency gains, allowing a 200rpm reduction in engine speeds during highway driving, contributing to the lower overall noise level.

Fleets in particular will also appreciate the new, longer service intervals, which have been extended to 20,000km.

There’s some strong numbers to show the benefits of all the changes. The new e-Power system enables the Qashqai to rack up 16% better fuel economy in real-world conditions, plus a 14% improvement in highway fuel consumption versus the current generation. Official fuel consumption now stands at 62mpg, giving a theoretical range of 1,200km (745 miles) on a full tank that kicks many traditional plug-in hybrids into a cocked hat.

At the same time, CO2 emissions are down to 102g/km; a 12% reduction compared with the 116g/km for the current iteration.

Cabin noise is reduced by up to 5.6dB compared to previous generation – supporting Nissan’s claims that the Qashqai e-Power offers EV-like refinement.

And there’s a 14hp boost in Sport Mode, delivering a more responsive and engaging drive.

We’ve analysed what worked in our previous generations, what appealed most to customers, and re-engineered the system to deliver maximum efficiency, lower emissions and a quieter, more refined drive – all with the same performance as a diesel. We are proud that new e-Power now offers best-in-class fuel efficiency and emissions.”

The Qashqai will also gain enhanced connected technology features – including Google built-in infotainment, which provides access to Google Maps, Assistant, and the Play Store. New features include voice commands via Google Assistant, access to additional apps through Google Play, weather forecasts at planned destinations, and Nissan Trip Stories – allowing customers to easily record and share their favourite journeys via the NissanConnect Services app.

Additional technology improvements include increased driving intelligence with enhanced ProPilot driver assistance features such as improved multi-lane autonomous drive interfaces for better traffic monitoring and awareness of surrounding environment.

The latest Qashqai equipped with new e-Power, which is built at Nissan’s factory in Sunderland in the UK, will be available in European markets from September 2025. Rollout across Africa and Oceania will follow in the months ahead.
