Plans for new Zafira take shape under GM and PSA global strategic alliance
Under the alliance, the two firms will co-develop a C-segment MPV for Opel/Vauxhall as the next Zafira. The agreement also sees the development of a C-segment crossover utility vehicle for Peugeot as the next version of the 3008, as well as a joint B-segment MPV – set to be the replacement to the Meriva and C3 Picasso. There will also be an upgraded low-CO2 B-segment platform for Europe and other regions.
In a statement today, the carmakers outlined that PSA will provide the platforms for all three vehicles, although the development of the latter will be led by GM. Meanwhile the upgraded low-CO2 B-segment platform will be a joint development.
The companies also re-emphasised their intention to develop new global projects, particularly with regards to opportunities in Latin America and Russia, as well as a new generation of fuel-efficient, high-performance three-cylinder petrol engines, based on PSA Peugeot Citroen’s EB line.
