RoSPA gears up for increased demand for international driver trainers

The organisation says that its expanding international presence and improved awareness of the dangers of driving in different countries and cultures is increasing the demand for its training courses.

Four new trainers have been hired after undergoing a rigorous selection process, which included a development course in Dubai to ensure their ability to work within different driving cultures and conditions worldwide.

The move will ensure an enhanced response time to requests for training, and will expand the capacity for RoSPA international diploma courses overseas, putting the charity at the forefront of road and driver safety improvement worldwide.

RoSPA international driver trainers are able to work on all types of road and in all forms of driving culture across the world, including Russia, North Africa, the Middle East and Western Europe.

They deliver the International Diploma in Advanced Driving Instruction to ‘train the trainers’ at organisations abroad, such as companies working overseas, and provide delegates with the skills necessary to ensure their drivers are as safe as possible on any country’s road system.

The new trainers can also assess an organisation’s driver training courses, and provide the highly sought-after RoSPA accreditation to show they adhere to an internationally-recognised standard.

High demand from the oil industry has also led to RoSPA developing a bespoke version of the accreditation scheme developed with Shell Petroleum, for companies in this field.

Rick Wood, head of training at RoSPA’s driver and fleet solutions, said: ‘Our four new international driver trainers were selected following a rigorous process and chosen for their understanding of differing driving conditions and cultures worldwide. These trainers will be training local trainers who will then deliver defensive driving courses to company drivers.

‘Just as language differs from country to country, driving throughout the world has local dialects and accents that international driver trainers have to understand and appreciate.  This enables the people they train to deliver effective training solutions to local at-work drivers.

‘Following the purpose-designed development course in Dubai, the RoSPA trainers are now equipped to speak the different languages of roads around the globe, meaning RoSPA continues to be a world leader in driver safety.’
