Škoda has revitalised its classic Favorit hatchback as an electric vehicle for the future.

The new concept pays tribute to one of the brand’s groundbreaking models with a modern reinterpretation with fully electric power and unique lights.

Reimagined by designer Ljudmil Slavov, the Favorit concept opts for a modern minimalistic look, rather than the retro-futuristic styling of new models such as the Renault 5, while retaining recognisable cues from the original.

First launched in 1987 and made until 1994, the Favorit marked a significant turning point for Škoda.

Designed originally by Italian stylist Bertone, it delivered eye-catching looks and was also the brand’s first car to follow the European trend of locating the engine at the front, mounted transversely, and also its first car to use front-wheel drive. This put it on a par with Western competitors, proving a decisive moment for Volkswagen Group’s interest in the carmaker and laying the foundations for the rise of Škoda as an international volume brand.

The new-look Favorit is crafted with Škoda’s current design language but Slavov said “simplifying an already minimalistic shape into the Modern Solid style was genuinely challenging”.

There’s no Tech Deck face, used prominently for the Elroq and Enyaq under the Modern Solid style. Slavov explained: “This is a tribute to the Favorit, so I carefully studied the original details, aiming to evolve and elevate them.”

One of the concept’s standout features is its headlight design, paying tribute to the original with ultra-slim LED strips at the front and rear, set behind semi-transparent covers that mirror the size and volume of the original lamps.

“These covers allow the lights to project different patterns, which owners could personalise,” Slavov said.

Sadly, there’s no plans to bring this new Favorit to market and the concept remains purely a design study as part of the brand’s ongoing series of modern reinterpretations. Other Škoda classics already revitalised as 21^st century concepts include the 200 RS, the 1203 van and the original Voiturette.
