Volkswagen Passat gains head-up display

The technology is marked out for the way it presents relevant data in the driver’s far-field vision. Information and alerts are projected onto a 10 x 15cm slide-out pane positioned directly in the driver's field of vision, with the on-screen information appearing to be two metres in front of the vehicle.

Volkswagen says that the advantage of this is method of projection reduces reaction time and also means the driver's eyes do not need to refocus so often from far-field to near-field vision.

When not in use, the display disappears again inside the dashboard.

The head-up display is available as an option for the whole Passat range – Passat Saloon, Passat Variant, Passat Alltrack and Passat GTE – at a price of €560.
