Volvo’s groundbreaking EX60 electric SUV is officially heading to its first customers, delivering class-leading range and charging capabilities.

The EX60 delivers a pioneering range of up to 810km

Unveiled in January as the electric sibling to the Swedish brand’s best-selling XC60 mid-size SUV, the five-seater SUV aims to redefine the segment with a focus on design and technology.

The very first customers in Sweden are now behind the wheel of their EX60, with wider rollouts imminently following in other markets.

“This is a huge moment for us and our customers,” said Erik Severinson, chief commercial officer at Volvo Cars. “After many thousands of hours and miles developing one of the most advanced cars on the market, seeing the first customers take delivery of their own EX60 feels especially momentous.”

Positioned as a direct rival to the Tesla Model Y and BMW iX3, the Volvo delivers a pioneering range of up to 810km. According to Volvo, this class-leading capability effectively puts an end to range anxiety. It also sets new ground for charging speeds, refilling from 10 to 80% in just 16 minutes when hooked up to a 400kW rapid charger.

Notably, the electric SUV is priced in line with the company’s best-selling XC60 plug-in hybrid, removing the ‘EV premium’ barrier.

Additionally, the EX60 marks a milestone as the company’s first fully electric car to be designed, developed and built in Sweden. The EX60 is underpinned by SPA3, an all-new scalable product architecture that introduces new key manufacturing technologies such as megacasting and cell-to-body battery technology.

On the technology front, the EX60 stands out as the company’s most intelligent vehicle to date. It uses a proprietary, internally developed software and hardware ecosystem named HuginCore (after the mythological Norse raven), which enables the car to think, process and act.

This system encompasses the electrical architecture, core computer, zone controllers and software inside the EX60 – effectively consolidating processing into a unified central brain that coordinates everything from safety to infotainment, helping the EX60 feel more responsive and intuitive to use. HuginCore enables continuous improvement of Volvo cars via over-the-air updates and reinforces the company’s safety leader position.

And, as the first Volvo to launch with Gemini – the new AI assistant from Google – customers can have a true natural conversation with the EX60. The vehicle is also the inaugural Volvo to use the brand’s world-first multi-adaptive safety belt.

The EX60 is available with three different powertrain variants. The P12 AWD Electric variant offers the class-leading range of up to 810km, while the P10 AWD Electric clocks in at a range of up to 660km. A rear-wheel-drive P6 Electric version delivers up to 611km of range. In total, the EX60 is available in seven models, covering all needs and lifestyles.

Following the initial handovers, production and customer deliveries of the EX60 will ramp up in the second half of 2026. Order books remain open across Europe and have recently opened in the United States as well.
