Carmakers build presence in Interbrand’s 2016 Best Global Brands Report

Both Toyota (ranked 03, +9%) and Mercedes-Benz (9th, +18%) were in the top 10 while Nissan (43rd, +22%) was named in the world’s five Top Growing brands and Tesla made into the top rankings for the first time in the 100th slot.

Other car brands on the up include Ford (33rd, +12%), Hyundai (35th, +11%), Audi (38th, +14%), Porsche (50th, +18%), Kia (69th, +12%), Land Rover (78th, +11%) and MINI (88th, +18%).

Brands that slipped down included Honda (21st, -4%) and VW (40th, -9%).

The Top 100 brands have a combined total of 1,796,384 $m, an increase of 4.8% from 2015.

The ranking is based on three key components that contribute to a brand’s cumulative value:

·       The financial performance of the branded products and services

·       The role the brand plays in influencing customer choice

·       The strength the brand has to command a premium price or secure earnings for the company
