Giulia, Ateca and Tiguan gain five-star Euro NCAP ratings

Under the new dual rating scheme launched by Euro NCAP at the start of this year, cars can receive two safety ratings – a default one based on the standard safety equipment available throughout the range and an optional second rating, showing the additional safety provided by an optional pack.

However the organisation praised the Giulia, Ateca and Tiguan for coming with “superior” standard safety equipment as standard throughout Europe. This includes autonomous emergency braking (AEB) systems which help avoid or mitigate collisions between cars and with pedestrians.

Secretary General, Michiel van Ratingen, said: “We are glad to see some of the major manufacturers making safety equipment standard across EU28, although we know that markets outside the Eurozone are sometimes less well served.”

The Giulia was awarded an Adult Occupant rating of 98% with 81% for Child Occupant, 69% for Pedestrian and 60% for Safety Assist.

The SEAT Ateca scored 93% for its Adult Occupant rating, 84% for Child Occupant, 71% for Pedestrian and 60% for Safety Assist.

The VW Tiguan ratings saw a score of 96% for Adult Occupant, 84% for Child Occupant, 72% for Pedestrian and 68% for Safety Assist.
