Mitsubishi is kicking off its return to the UK market with the news that its latest Outlander PHEV and L200 pickup will go on sale in summer 2026.

The Outlander PHEV SUV and the L200 Series 7 double-cab pickup will initially be available in limited numbers from launch and will build on the popularity and sales success of their predecessors. The Outlander PHEV will also be available in seven-seat form for the first time.

The announcement follows last month’s news that the Japanese brand is returning to the UK new car market five years after its exit, distributed by International Motors, which already works with brands including Subaru, Isuzu, Xpeng and GWM.

The original all-wheel-drive Outlander PHEV, first launched in 2014, was a firm hit with fleets such as Defra.

All-new from the ground up, the latest model is longer, wider and taller, and powered by an enhanced 2.4-litre petrol engine with a traction battery powering front and rear electric motors. The EV-based 4WD powertrain delivers a combined power output of over 300hp, with a driving range of over 500 miles.

The twin-motor 4WD powertrain pairs with Mitsubishi’s “rally-bred” Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, which “optimally” manages driving and braking forces at all four wheels for “exceptional handling and stability”. It features a choice of drive modes and a range of terrain selection settings, targeting fleets and drivers needing capability for all-weather and all-terrain conditions.

The latest Outlander PHEV also upgrades practicality, versatility and interior finish – and for the first time in the UK market, a version of the Outlander PHEV will be available with a seven-seat setup.

The new generation of the L200 double-cab pickup is also “tougher and more capable than ever”.

The L200 first arrived in the UK in the mid-1980s in single-cab, Series 2 guise, with the following Series 3 being available for the first time as a double-cab model. Its appeal was broadened with the arrival of the Series 4, Series 5 and Series 6 models, extending cumulative sales to more than 180,000 units.

The Series 7 model features a rugged, “ultra-modern exterior” that matches a cabin delivering significant advances in design, technology and material quality.

It’s powered by a heavily reengineered 2.4-litre two-stage bi-turbo diesel engine. Power and torque have both been increased over its predecessor. The Super Select 4WD-II system offers a choice of two- and four-wheel drive, along with centre differential locked full-time four-wheel drive and low gear centre differential locked four-wheel drive, with the choice of seven Normal, ECO, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock driving modes.

UK launch dates, prices and vehicle specifications will be announced closer to launch in 2026.
