Polestar broadens electric line-up with new Polestar 4 SUV variant

Electric performance car brand Polestar has confirmed the arrival of a new Polestar 4 SUV variant later this summer.

The Polestar 4 SUV gains more practicality and storage, along with updated chassis dynamics

Building upon the market success of the existing Polestar 4 coupé, this new variant introduces enhanced practicality, updated chassis dynamics and versatile storage capabilities to target a wider customer base.

While the electric brand initially announced an estate version of the Polestar 4 earlier this year, that concept has since evolved into the new SUV variant – notably reintroducing a traditional, upright rear window in place of the coupé’s camera-only setup.

The new SUV uses the same 400V electrical architecture, battery pack sizes and electric motor configurations as the existing Polestar 4 coupé. This packs in up to 391 miles (630km) of WLTP range for Rear motor variants and up to 544hp of power in Dual motor models.

To compensate for the taller, more upright SUV roofline and the altered weight distribution from adding a glass rear window, Polestar engineers updated the vehicle’s dynamic tuning. Both the new SUV and the refreshed coupé feature retuned chassis components for a more refined driving experience.

Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO, said: “Polestar 4 has quickly established itself as a favourite among our customers, and we’ve seen strong demand from drivers who want distinctive design and performance combined with great practicality. With Polestar 4 SUV, we’re building on that success by offering even more versatility, while staying true to the Polestar 4 character. Wrapped in a stunning design, this is a car I’ve been looking forward to sharing with the world.”

Order books are slated to open on 2 September 2026 across the majority of global Polestar retail markets, with official pricing and regional delivery timelines expected closer to the launch date.

The arrival of the Polestar 4 SUV comes hot on the heels of the Polestar 5 four-door Grand Tourer (GT) presented in 2025. The all-new Polestar 2 fastback is due early 2027 while the Polestar 7 compact premium SUV lands in 2028 and marks the company’s entrance into the largest EV segment in Europe.
