Škoda is adding plug-in hybrid power to its latest-generation Superb Hatch as demand for PHEV models rises.

The new 272hp plug-in hybrid becomes the most powerful Škoda vehicle equipped with a combustion engine and marks a return to PHEV power for the Superb Hatch. It joins the 204hp PHEV powertrain solely offered for the Superb Estate since the fourth-generation Superb debuted in 2024.

The new plug-in system combines a 177hp 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine with a 116hp electric motor and a 25.7kWh (gross) traction battery. Top speed stands at 140mph and the Superb Hatch PHEV accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 7.1 seconds, and allows a higher towbar load of up to 2,000kg. The braking system has also been upgraded.

The battery charges at up to 11kW AC and has a peak DC charging rate of 50kW, giving a 10-80% charge in around 26 minutes.

Prices and dates for first deliveries will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

The new addition expands Škoda’s plug-in hybrid offering. The Czech brand introduced its first plug-in hybrid model, the Superb iV, in 2019, followed by the Octavia iV a year later and the plug-in hybrid Kodiaq in 2024.

Since 2019, Škoda has delivered more than 68,000 Superb iV models across both generations and body styles. Demand continues to rise, with one in four new Superb models featuring a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
