Range Rover Sport Electric uncovered with 550hp and ultra-fast 800V charging tech
Range Rover has officially confirmed its second fully electric vehicle: the Range Rover Sport Electric.
The British luxury brand revealed the upcoming SUV at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week ahead of its expected arrival at the end of this year, hot on the heels of the Range Rover Electric.
Both models share JLR’s flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA-Flex) platform and powertrain technology.
The Sport model retains its signature muscular design but swaps traditional engines for a high-performance electric powertrain for “effortless, visceral performance”.
Full details are yet to be announced but initial specs reveal the electric motors will deliver 550hp of power, along with 850Nm, expected to enable quicker acceleration than previous models.
Meanwhile, a 118.5kWh battery could give a WLTP range of around 480km while the high-voltage 800V electrical architecture will unlock ultra-rapid DC fast-charging speeds, although figures are yet to be confirmed.
The brand also promises a suite of advanced technologies that “unleash more power and torque, amplified by an advanced new chassis tune and audio sound, creating a drive that feels as distinctive as it is visceral, across any terrain”.
Proving the performance, prototype models tackled high-speed challenges at the Goodwood Motor Circuit.
The addition of the pure‑electric model will complete the powertrain line‑up for Range Rover Sport, which also features a plug‑in electric hybrid, mild‑hybrid V8 petrol and six‑cylinder petrol and diesel choices.
Martin Limpert, managing director, said: “Electric power brings a new edge to Range Rover Sport. The preview at Goodwood Festival of Speed is only a glimpse of how this model will redefine performance SUVs again later this year, combining the refinement and immediate performance of electric drive while further elevating the unmistakable character of Range Rover Sport our clients already know and love.”
Full specifications, pricing and release dates will be revealed in the coming weeks.
